Thousands of people are expected to descend on St Neots town centre on Saturday to celebrate the town’s fifth Armed Forces Day.

The event, which is taking place on Regatta Meadow, alongside the River Great Ouse, is an opportunity to support those who have previously served in the armed forces, anyone who is currently serving and those who may be considering a career in the armed forces.

Regatta Meadow will be filled with military vehicles, representatives from the armed forces as well as live music, trade stands and a huge selection of food and drink.

There will also be children’s entertainment and family activities at the event, which runs from 10am till 5pm.

“This annual event attracts more than 5,000 visitors every year,” said Karen Pollecutt, from St Neots Town Council.

She added: “Visitors will be treated to an array of military displays, stage entertainment, a food and drink market, vintage fun fair rides, stalls, and much more.”

The event was organised by the St Neots Armed Forces Day committee in association with the mayor of St Neots. The main sponsor for the event is Premier Plus, in Eaton Socon.

Company managing director, Kevin Hull, said: “It is with great pride and privilege that we are sponsoring the town council’s celebration of our armed forces.

“Although I have no personal ties with the forces, we have many friends and clients who do and it is in their honour that we are sponsoring this year’s event. I hope the day goes well and truly recognises the commitment shown by our armed forces to our safety.”

Councillor Barry Chapman, who was named as the new mayor of St Neots last month, added: “This is the fifth year that St Neots has celebrated the work of the armed forces.

“The town now has one of the largest and best attended Armed Forces Day events in the east of England.

“This year’s event has been made possible by the kind support of Premier Plus. My greatest thanks on behalf of our town go to the directors and Premier Plus for its very generous sponsorship.”

The event is free to enter on foot, but there is a small charge for vehicles at the event.

Armed Forces Day is a national event that happens across the country.
