President Julia Midgley welcomed members and guests to the September meeting.
The speaker was John Miles who gave a talk on the experiences of his father-in-law, who was in the RAF during the Second World War and was captured while on a flying mission over Germany. He showed slides of a journal his father-in-law kept whilst a prisoner of war, which included maps of places he was taken to by the Germans and examples of the meagre weekly food rations supplied to the prisoners. He also displayed the flying jacket and trousers worn by his father-in-law during the mission.
The competition, An interesting diary entry, was won by Stephanie Garner and the raffle by Pauline Poulter.
The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on October 10 at Thorndown School. As usual, visitors are welcome.
