THERE were more than 70 entries for the first Holywell-cum-Needingworth, St John the Baptist Church photographic competition which was on display at the church over Easter.
The theme of Work, Rest or Play brought in entries from as far as Bury St Edmunds, Peterborough, Oundle and even County Durham.
There was a wide range of subject venues including archaeology in Turkey, beautiful sunrises, musicians playing, and seaside enjoyment.
The competition was for two age groups. For the 16 years and over there was a prize of a 10-week evening course in photography at Huntingdon Regional College (HRC) won by Andy Greatrex, a free portrait sitting (courtesy Brian Jones Photography) won by Julian Strong and a poster-size print of the entry from HRC, won by Jenny Munro.
The junior class was won by Laura Greatrex, aged 9 who won a £25 voucher from Jessops. She also took second place and a poster-size print of her entry. Her brother James won a £10 voucher from IT Solutions of St Ives.
A special prize was presented to Stephen York for his 'Cat over the fence'. The competition raised £140 for the church funds.
