17 arrested in police drugs raid

POLICE have arrested 17 people in St Neots, Huntingdon and London as part of a nationwide crackdown on Class A drug dealing.

The carefully-planned six-week operation, code-named Xander, resulted in 35 police officers descending on 16 addresses on Wednesday and Thursday night (August 3 and 4.)

Twelve of the addresses searched were in St Neots and Huntingdon, a further four were in London, and about 90 wraps of crack cocaine and 10 wraps of heroine were seized by police in total.

Detective Inspector Jon McAdam, who led the operation said: “Drug dealing has a significant impact on people’s lives, causing intimidation and misery for residents living in affected areas.

“This operation was the culmination of a lengthy investigation and shows our commitment to tackling this type of crime in Huntingdonshire.”

Of the 17 arrested six people, aged between 33 and 37, were charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs and appeared in Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court.

Two of those were from addresses at Stone Hill Road and Sandhill Road, St Neots and the others from London.

All six will appear in Huntingdon Crown Court on Thursday (August 11.)

In the same operation, four men from addresses at Cromwell Gardens, St Neots, The Broadwalk and Hall Road, Eynesbury and Coronation Road, Huntingdon were charged with possession of class A drugs and released on bail to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court this week.

Police also arrested a 29-year-old woman from St Neots on conspiracy to supply Class A drugs who was released on bail to return to Huntingdon Police Station.

Two men were released without charge.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in St Neots on Sunday evening (August 7) charged with possession with intent to supply heroine and crack cocaine.

A further two men, 16 and 36 years of age, were arrested in Huntingdon on Tuesday afternoon (August 9) after a warrant was issued for an address in Huntingdon.

They are currently being held at Huntingdon Police Station.
