A mum-of-two from Wyton-on-the-Hill has set up a small business, thanks to a programme that supports members of the armed forces and their families.

Ashling Jones, aged 36, enrolled on a 10-month business training and mentoring support programme in September, which is made available to dependents and veterans of armed forces personnel.

The Supporting the Unsung Hero course, run by Wolverhampton University, has helped her set up a business called Light It Or Lamp It. Ashling, whose husband is serving in the armed forces, makes bespoke, handcrafted lampshades for lights and lamps.

“I am only part way through the course, but already I am feeling the benefits,” said Ashling who has two sons aged two and four.

“The orders are starting to come in now and I am really enjoying myself. The support I have had has been brilliant and it is ongoing. We will be supported and mentored, and that is important, when you set up a new business.”
