WOOD Green Animal Shelters in Godmanchester is planning to install high power security lights across its entire site.

The animal charity has been forced to take extra precautions following several break-ins on the premises, including the theft of a Staffordshire terrier at Christmas and an assault on one of the staff last month.

A spokesman for Wood Green told The Hunts Post that the lights would cover the whole site, all around the perimeter and the interior as well. At the same time, the charity is updating its CCTV cameras covering the site and increasing the number of staff on surveillance at night.

The charity has applied to Huntingdonshire District Council for planning permission for the lights and, if granted, work is expected to start next month.

As reported by The Hunts Post, just after Christmas, a puppy called Grinch was stolen from Wood Green and was later found wandering in Lincolnshire.

Last month, a member of staff at Wood Green was attacked by intruders. The attack was in the early hours of Saturday, March 7 when the employee was walking the grounds to check that there were no problems with the animals. He discovered a man trying to break into a building and when he confronted the intruder, he was attacked by accomplices who had been hiding.
