A WOMAN faked pregnancy to get into a filling station before carrying out an armed robbery with three men. The robbery took place at the Esso garage in Spaldwick, on the westbound carriageway of the A14, between 10pm and 11pm on Sunday (January 11). A woman was working at the shop with the door locked when a red saloon car pulled up. After a while a woman got out of the car, banged on the shop door and asked to use the toilet. As she let her in and showed her the toiler, a man also walked in. When the woman returned from the toilet she pulled out a handgun and threatened the member of staff, while the man let two other men into the shop and rolled a stocking over his face. The other men had also masked their faces. The female robber led the woman to the rear of the station where she pulled out a hold-all, which had been under her top to make her look pregnant, and filled it with cigarettes and cash. An office and stock room were also broken into and cigarettes stolen. The victim was tied up with string but she managed to contact police. She was shaken but not injured. The female robber was described as white, between 28 and 35, slim, and dressed in dark clothing. The men were all dressed in dark clothing. Detective Inspector Jon McAdam, who is investigating, said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the member of staff, who genuinely believed she was helping out a pregnant woman. "I would appeal for anyone with information about this crime to come forward, particularly anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious." INFORMATION: Anyone with information should contact DI McAdam on 0845 4564564, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
