A MAN, believed to be armed with a knife, attacked a woman after she stopped to help him.

A 39-year-old woman pulled into a lay-by on the B660 at Holme at about 9.15pm on Friday after seeing a man lying on the floor next to a motorbike.

Police said when the woman approached the man, he got up off the floor and attacked her. He then got on the motorbike and rode away.

The woman was left shaken and had some minor injuries.

She described her attacker as being 5ft 10in tall. He was wearing a crash helmet, waist-length nylon jacket and leather gloves.

Det Sgt Gay Malloys said: "This was a nasty incident and we would urge anyone with information about this man to get in touch with police."
