A WOMAN was assaulted and had her car stolen after she stopped to help someone who had been involved in a car accident.

The 28-year-old woman, who was driving a grey Audi A3, stopped to help the driver of a silver Vauxhall Vectra which had collided with a lamppost and landed in a ditch.

When the woman approached the Vauxhall, the driver got out of the car and assaulted the woman. He then stole her keys and drove off in the Audi in the direction of Abbots Ripton.

The offender is described as white, aged in his 30's, with short light brown hair. He was wearing a dark bomber jacket and jeans.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault, which took place at just after 8pm on Tuesday, March 4 at the A141 roundabout in Huntingdon.

The Audi was found torched at 10.45pm on the same evening in the car park of Millfield Football Club in Needingworth.

Detective Inspector Ian Simmons, investigating, said: "This was an unprovoked and traumatic attack on a member of the public trying to help the victim of a car accident.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either the silver Vauxhall Vectra in the moments before the robbery or the grey Audi A3 being driven away from the scene."

We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the grey Audi A3 being set alight at the football club car park in St Ives."
