I AM very angry and upset about this (Attacked by bulldog for second time, August 16) incident, which could and should have been avoided.

Nine weeks ago this dog escaped and attacked four children, one being my daughter. She was lucky, but George and another little boy weren't so lucky.

As I got all the kids from off the street into my home for safety until the dog was caught, I could hear screaming. As I looked out of my window a little boy had been mounted and was being bit all over his head and the side of his face.

I managed to get him in and clean his wounds but after his mother arrived he had to go to hospital and have stitches in his face. He was very distraught and upset.

I told police that evening and again later on when I wrote a statement that the dog should be removed as it wasn't stable and next time it would be a lot worse.

I was accused of over reacting. Now poor George has to live with not only his physical scars but his mental ones. Our children also have to live with the horror of seeing their friend being attacked by a dog and having his cheek pulled away from his face.

When I went over to help it was like a horror film and very distressing seeing a child and his parents in such an awful state that could have been avoided if our system was quicker.

Why were the police not allowed to remove a dangerous dog from its owners if it attacks?

It's just ridiculous, in my eyes, that if a dog fouls the streets the owners can be fined, but if it attacks they can't do anything.

At least the dog was destroyed, but what if an owner refused to do that. What then? Would it be forgotten like the first incident?

I hope this will make a difference and people will speak up and do something about the system by voicing their opinions, as one day it could be someone they love and cherish.

I LIVE in Norfolk Road, just up the road from George Brown and his family (Attacked by bulldog for second time, August 16).

I was looking after my friend's little boy who was round playing with my oldest son when the bulldog attacked the first time on May 24. It was my son's friend who was attacked and bitten on the face, although not to the degree that George was. Nevertheless he was taken to hospital as a precaution. There was no way this dog was "play fighting", this was a warning which has not been taken seriously by the CPS.

Since that incident I have not let my children out to play with their friends for fear of this dog escaping and attacking again.

There is no doubt in my mind that the owners should have been more careful in ensuring it did not escape. A muzzle and secure fencing may have prevented this. My children are scared to go out, and the neighbourhood is unhappy and upset by recent events.

Why did it take a small child to be maimed for something to be done about a dangerous dog in the neighbourhood?

I AM George Brown's aunt and I have never seen anything so bad in my life as his injuries. If the police had dealt with this matter earlier I doubt it would ever have happened. Now I hope people realise what dogs can do to people. They should be kept on leads and locked up at all times.

Just a little thing I want to say to George: I love him to bits and he'll always be the same little boy, and nothing will change that.

I THINK that dog should have been put down the first time it bit someone. It shouldn't have been allowed to be let out of the owner's hands and I feel very much for Michaela. She was a really brave girl. That dog could have bit anyone, even me as I live just around the corner from where the incident happened.

But all my sympathy goes to George and his mother. I hope that George is well. He is a very cute little boy.
