VICTIMS of crime can now get an electronic update on the progress of police investigations via a new scheme introduced by Cambridgeshire police.
By visiting the force website and entering their crime reference number, victims will be given one of four standard messages about the status of the investigation.
The Victim of Crime Updates scheme will be an addition to traditional crime updates, and is aimed at saving the public the expense and time of making calls to the police.
It also allows people to leave messages about their case, which may need answering by police.
Chief Constable Julie Spence said: "This is an extra incentive to my officers to ensure they come up with a reply and keep information up-to-date."
The scheme, which has been trailed over the past month and attracted more than 600 users, was launched on Monday.
