A SCHOOL swimming pool, which was deemed unsafe for children, has been reopened after pupils helped collect £10,000 for its refurbishment.
The heated outdoor swimming pool at Upwood Primary School was closed after the lining rotted away.
There were fears the repair bill would prevent the pool from opening again. However, after a year of organising fundraising events, including discos, cake stalls and car boot sales, the school collected enough cash to carry out the work and reopen the pool.
Teacher Lindsay Clarke said: "We couldn't use the pool until the lining was replaced so we decided to start fundraising.
"We are all ecstatic that the money has been raised and the pool has been able to reopen."
The refurbishment means - depending on the British summer weather - that after the half-term break the children should be back in the pool, three times a week.
The pool has been used by pupils at the school for more than 40 years.
