I SUPPORT comments made by D Simmons (January 19) and Mr Goff (February 7) regarding safety measures by the Environment Agency at Godmanchester weir. It's obvious little thought has gone into this project.

Given the agency usually has a survey carried out and feasibility study undertaken, how could it come up with such a scheme?

During flood time the undertow current at these buoys is tremendous and would suck a body down. I can only conclude this to be a backside-covering exercise after the tragedy at Offord weir a few years ago when a speedboat travelling too fast at night hit the Offord Weir. Had these buoys been installed at that time, everyone in the boat would have been catapulted forward into the weir.

These current measures are dangerous and a waste of money.
