A COMMUNITY cafe in St Ives is looking for more volunteers to help meet the demands of customers arriving in the town on the guided bus.

Tookeys Coffee Shop at the Free Church, Market Hill, St Ives, has seen a surge – a 50 per cent increase at weekends – in customers since the long-awaited arrival of the busway, which opened on August 7 after being delayed for more than two years.

A spokesman for the cafe said: “The guided bus is bringing business to St Ives. It has benefited Tookey’s Coffee Shop – business has grown with visitors from Cambridge and villages nearby so much that we now could do with more volunteer helpers.”

The cafe, which is open six days a week and was refurbished a few months ago, is dependent on volunteers to keep going.

“It has a qualified manager and staff who are working very hard to provide service with a smile,” the spokesman added. “We’re now making new friends with people having a day out in St Ives.”

INFORMATION: If you have time to spare and would like to help out, contact manager, Pat Clarke, on 01480 468886.

The cafe is open Monday to Friday 9.45am until 2pm and on Saturday from 9.45am until 4pm.
