TWICE as much violent crime is being solved in Huntingdonshire and Fenland than a year ago, with more than half such crimes being solved, according to police. Overall in the central police division, detection rates went up from 16 per cent in December 2004 to just over 26 per cent at the end of 2005, according to new figures. Violent crime detection rose from under 25 per cent to just over 50 per cent, as police solved 457 more crimes. The most spectacular improvement was in solving fraud and forgery cases, from 18.3 per cent in 2004 to 59.1 per cent - 410 more offences solved. Total crime in the division fell by nearly 10 per cent, from 14,335 to 12,960 offences, and violent crime by 21.6 per cent, from 3,139 to 2,462.
