STUDENTS have been celebrating across Huntingdonshire after another record-breaking year of A-Level results.

Pupils returned to their schools on Thursday (August 20) to collect their results.

At Kimbolton School students have had another impressive year securing an A-C pass rate of 87.8 per cent. Headteacher Jonathan Belbin said: "Once again, I am delighted with the hard work of the students and their teachers. I was particularly pleased with the number of students who got into their first choice university on the back of these results. They really are startlingly good results."

It's a record-breaking year for St Ivo School in St Ives who achieved their best results ever, with 79.2 per cent of grades at A-C. Headteacher Howard Gilbert said: "I'm delighted with the results. We had high hopes for this year group and they have done themselves and us proud."

Abbey College in Ramsey also achieved their best set of A-level results with a 70 per cent A-C pass rate and a 99 per cent A-E pass rate. Headteacher Wayne Birks said: "These are excellent results and confirm improvements made in recent years. In addition to an improvement in the overall pass rate of four per cent we have seen a 10 per cent improvement in high grade scores and an impressive 13 per cent improvement in A and B grades achieved. I would like to congratulate all students and my colleagues for their superb achievement."

At Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon grades were also up on last year with pupils achieving a 74 per cent A-C pass rate and 99 per cent pass rate at grades A-E. John Norris, head of sixth form, said: "We are seeing real individual achievement in the sixth form, despite the numbers of students growing dramatically. This is now the third year of successive improvement sustained by the Hinchingbrooke Sixth form students."

St Peter's School in Huntingdon achieved a 50 per cent A-C pass rate and a 98 per cent A-E pass rate. Headteacher Val Ford said: "We are very pleased with our students' results. Once again, they have achieved a very high overall pass rate and have performed extremely well and in line with our expectations. They have demonstrated a great deal of hard work and determination. We are hopeful that the 75 per cent of students with offers of university places will be successful."

Students at Longsands College in St Neots again performed well with the A-C pass rate increasing from last year's 69.1 per cent to this year's 71.9 per cent. Headteacher Robert Whatmough said: "We are very pleased by the range and depth of these results. They reflect the college's determination to enable each student to make the most of their abilities. The college offers a very high number of subjects and it is especially encouraging to see so much success across the curriculum. No matter what their ability, students have to show great persistence and determination to complete courses of study at this level. Their results are a reflection of their positive approach and, in many cases, high levels of effort, knowledge and skills."

Sawtry College reported their best set of results with an A-C pass rate of 66 per cent and A-E pass rate of 98 per cent.

Headteacher Nigel Smith said: "These are certainly the best set of results we have had in recent years. Seven students achieved at least three A grades and 2/3 of all grades were grade C or higher. Results in Mathematics and Art were particularly outstanding.

This was a particularly talented and pleasant year group to teach and it is really satisfying that they have achieved the results they deserve. "

St Neots Community College achieved a 50 per cent A-C pass rate compared to last year’s 55 per cent.

Geoff Watt, assistant principal said: “It’s pleasing to note that our results this year are broadly in line with those of previous years.

“Our sixth formers have a range of abilities nevertheless, our ethos is to offer all of them the best possible opportunities and environment in which to develop and succeed.

“We always encourage and support every student to pursue their studies and in doing so help them to reach their full potential.

“We’re very proud of those students who, through hard work and commitment, have achieved some outstanding results.”
