VAL Miles has raised £1,000 for Macmilllan Cancer Relief in 10 months. She has generated the money by selling silk flowers and running a monthly tombola stall at The Commemoration Hall in Huntingdon.
Mrs Miles, 71, and a great grandmother, began fundraising for good causes after her husband, David, died of cancer, two years ago on his 70th birthday. They had been married for 48 years.
In 2004, Mrs Miles, from Hartford, raised £1,500 for the keyhole surgery appeal at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Before she retired, she ran a playschool, looking after 850 children over 32 years. Mrs Miles is pictured with Di Polley and Geoff Coles, treasurer and chairman of Huntingdonshire Macmillan. Spread out in front of them are the goods which will be on sale on Saturday at Mrs Miles's stall in the Commemoration Hall to raise more money for Macmillan between 10am and 3pm.
