I FELT quite uplifted while reading the local paper recently. The Ernulf pool was open again, there was a story about a boxing gym looking for sponsorship, so that youngsters can train and get fit, a community centre will be built near the Rainbow, to use in the spring. The council is getting the message - facilities at last. Bang on course.

Way off course, though, was the interview about town centre shopping not being affected much by the ever-changing face of our local industry. The loss of jobs at Scandstick (the old Samuel Jones), Gates and now Sealed Air should not be under-estimated.

To improve town centre shopping we need some more well-known shops to invite us in to spend what money we have got. St Neots High Street, as it is, is jaded and unappealing.
