THE Sunset Ceremony to remember the Battle of Britain at Royal Air Force Wyton took place against a glorious sky, with music playing and a fly-past by a Lancaster from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Guests included civilians from several walks of life, including commerce, civic dignitaries, local farmers and the many organisations that support Royal Air Force Brampton and Wyton.
Music was provided by the band of the Royal Air Force College to a backdrop of images of the epic battle.
The Wyton Area Voluntary Band played Sunset as the ensign was lowered and there was a fly-past from a Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The aircraft flew over the crowd from behind the officers' mess before performing two long turns and finishing by flying low and straight back over the officers' mess.
In closing the ceremony, the Station Commander, Group Captain Gordon Bruce, thanked all those present and reminded all the guests of their importance in helping to support Royal Air Force Brampton Wyton. He also affirmed that the close relationship the station has with the local community would continue through the next phase of change at the Station over the coming years.
