MORE than 100 Christmas trees were shredded at Hinchingbrooke Country Park as the festive period ended, helping to raise £240 for the special care baby unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
Visitors to the park were able to make donations in exchange for having their tree chipped. Some people took the chips home to compost.
This was the first Xtreme Recycling event at the park and was organised by Cambridgeshire County Council, which hopes to repeat the event next year. Other recycling events took place at Girton, Melbourn and Orwell.
In Huntingdon, customers were also able to recycle their Christmas cards at Tesco in a scheme that involved the Woodland Trust.
