Planned roadworks in the East of England: weekly summary for Monday, October 8, through to Sunday, October 14.

M11 junction 14 (Girton Interchange): essential embankment maintenance

Work to stabilise the northbound exit slip road embankment continues on Monday October 8. There will be a 24/7 closure of the northbound junction 14 exit slip road to ensure the carriageway remains safe during the work. Traffic will be diverted via the Dry Drayton junction (A14 junction 30) onto the A14 southbound and back to the A14 eastbound via A14 junction 31. The work is expected to take one week to complete.

M40 junctions 1 to 15: routine maintenance

Routine maintenance works include of slip roads and through junctions with two lanes. Works include sweeping, drainage cleaning, litter picking, vegetation cutting, white lining, street lighting maintenance, defect repair (including street lighting defects), inspection of the assets including structures and safety fence repair.

These works will continue until late November, over subsequent nights from 8pm, with planned re-opening times 7am on weeknights and 8am on weekends.

On Thursday, October 11, there will be a closure on the southbound and northbound Oxford Spur (A40) from diverge point at A418 exit slip to merge point with M40 at Junction 8.

Road users will leave the A40 at the A418 southbound exit slip and travel east along the A418. Travel to M40 Junction 8A and turn right at the second roundabout to join the M40 southbound.

On Friday, October 12, there will a closure on the northbound entry and exit slip at Junction 12 from diverge point with main carriageway to junction with B4451.

Exit slip traffic - Road users will continue to travel northbound along the M40 and leave at Junction 13 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 southbound and travel southbound to leave at Junction 12 exit slip.

Entry slip traffic – Road users will join the M40 southbound and travel south to leave the M40 at Junction 11 exit slip. Travel right around the roundabout to re-join the M40 northbound. Travel northbound back to Junction 12

A1M junction 14 – 17 Routine maintenance programme for October.

Routine maintenance works include white lining, road stud replacement, sweeping,

gully cleansing, safety fence tensioning and repair, bulk lamp changes (signs and

columns) crack sealing, loop cutting, vegetation clearance, kerbing and surfacing

reconstruction.

The works started on October 1 and will continue until mid-October, over subsequent nights from 8pm with planned re-opening times at 6am on weeknights only.

There will be the following closures on Tuesday, October 9:

Southbound slip road closure – junction 15 exit and entry

Diversion: exit slip

Continue on A1 (M) Southbound, exit at Junction14 onto A14 (M) Southbound, exit at A14 (M) Rusts Lane exit slip, use B1043 to A14 (M) Rusts Lane entry slip onto A14 (M) Northbound, merge on A1 (M) Northbound, exit at A1 (M) Junction15 Exit slip

Diversion: entry slip.

Diverted southbound on the B1043, continue onto B1043 adjacent to the A1M. Traffic wishing to join the A14 South will be directed to do so at Rusts Lane Entry Slip road. Traffic wishing to join the A1 South will be directed towards Alconbury on the B1043, enter the A1 Southbound at Brooklands Entry Slip Road.

Northbound Slip Road Closure - Junction 16 exit and entry

Diversion: exit slip

Diversion 1 – Advanced signs direct traffic to exit the A1 (M) Northbound at Junction 15 exit slip road, onto the B1043 North to Junction 16.

Diversion 2 – Traffic directed to continue North on the A1(M), exit at Junction 17 exit slip road (A605 exit slip) to Junction 17 Roundabout, around the roundabout to re-join the A1(M) Southbound via Junction 17 Entry slip road, continue South on the A1(M, exit at Jct16 Exit Slip road.

Diversion: Entry Slip

Diverted onto A15 Eastbound through Yaxley, towards Hampton, then onto A1260, join the A1139 Westbound and continue to A1 (M) Jct17.

On Wednesday, October 10, there will be a closure on the northbound exit slip road at Junction 17.

Diversion 1 – Diverted traffic to leave the A1 (M) Northbound at Junction 16 exit slip road, then onto A15 to Yaxley. Follow a15 through Yaxley, and then take the A1260 Northbound. Turn left onto A1139 Westbound; continue along A1139 to Junction 17.

Diversion 2 – Traffic to continue Northbound onto the A1(T) past Junction 17, exit A1(T) at Stibbington, over flyover and join the A1(T) Southbound, continue South, exit at A1(T) Junction 17 Exit slip road.

On Thursday, October 11, there will be a closure on the southbound entry slip road at Junction 16.

Road users will exit the roundabout for Stilton, and continue south via the B1043. Diverted traffic will join the A1 (M) southbound at Junction 15 entry slip road

On Friday, October 12, there will be a closure on the southbound entry Slip Road, rusts Lane Entry

Road users will divert west towards Alconbury and South on B1043 to enter the A1 Southbound, exit at A1 at Brampton hut interchange, east on A14 to Spittals interchange.

A1(M) junction 17, Stamford: safety improvements

Works will be carried out in stages to clear vegetation, repair the road, install sign posts, install traffic counter loops and refresh white lining and studs has begun and is scheduled to complete in approximately two weeks.

From Monday, October 8, the southbound A1 between Stamford and Wansford will be closed until Wednesday, October 10, between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion for drivers heading south will be in place via A43 and A47 before re-joining the A1 at Wansford.

On Monday, October 8, and Tuesday, October 9, a lane 2 northbound closure will be in place between Wansford and Stamford. From Thursday, October 11, to Saturday, October 13, a full northbound closure of the A1 between Wansford and Stamford will be in place between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion for drivers heading northbound will be in place via A47 and A43 before re-joining the A1 at Stamford. On Thursday, October 11, and Friday, October 12, a lane 2 southbound closure will be in place between Stamford and Wansford. On Saturday, October 13, a full southbound closure of the A1 between Stamford and Wansford will be in place between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion for drivers heading south will be in place via A43 and A47 before re-joining the A1 at Wansford.

A1/A428 junction at Wyboston: bridge repairs

Work to repair the flyover at this junction continues this week. There will be single lanes over the flyover for the duration of the bridge repairs, and a series of closures as follows, from 9pm to 6am with signed diversions:

Monday, October 8: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction.

Tuesday, October 9: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction

Wednesday, October 10: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction and the A1 northbound lane 2 will be closed at this junction.

Thursday, October 11: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction and the A1 northbound lane 2 will be closed at this junction.

Friday, October 12: The A1 southbound carriageway will be closed at this junction, with a short diversion around the junction.

A11 Fiveways roundabout Mildenhall: road sign, traffic light, traffic sensing loops, speed enforcement hard standings installation and safety improvements

Work to install road signs, traffic lights, traffic sensing loops, hard standings for mobile speed enforcement and re-lining of the roundabout is underway and due to complete around mid-November. Lane closures will be in place on the Fiveways roundabout rings between 8pm and 6am on weeknights, with no total closures or diversions currently required.

A12 and A120, Essex: safety barrier repairs

An ongoing programme of work to repair damaged safety barriers along the A12 and A120 in various locations continues this week, with working hours of 8pm to 6am, weeknights only. Single lane closures will be in place past the area being worked on.

A12 junction 28 to 27, Colchester: Motts Bridge refurbishment

Work to maintain road user safety continues this week. One lane of the junction 27 exit slip road will remain closed 24 hours a day.

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: major improvements

Construction work on the new A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is underway. We are currently carrying out a variety of tasks for which we need to close lanes or carriageways on the A1, A14 and some local roads at times, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures.

Vehicles will travel east on the A428, north on the A1198, west on the A14 and then north on the A14 link road to re-join the A1

A1 southbound between Alconbury and Buckden

Vehicles will be diverted south on the A14 link road, then east on the A14, south on the A1198 and west on the A428 to re-join the A1

A428 eastbound Madingley to A14 eastbound junction 33

Motorway traffic will travel south on the M11, east on A505 and north on A11 to re-join the A14. Non motorway traffic will be diverted on local roads through Cambridge.

M11 junction 14 exit slip

A14 westbound between junctions 36 and 31

Motorway traffic will travel south on the A11, west on the A505 and then north on the M11.

Non motorway traffic will diverted on local roads through Cambridge

A47 Longthorpe Footbridge between junctions 15 and 16, Peterborough: survey works

Work to survey the drainage and structural integrity of Longthorpe footbridge, between junctions 15 and 16 of the A47 starts Thursday 11 October, lasting one night, with working hours of 8pm to 6am. The footbridge will remain open to pedestrians, whilst single lane closures will be in place on the main carriageway.

A47 Guyhirn: slope stabilisation, vegetation clearance and installation of digital signs

Works to stabilise the A47 westbound slope, clear vegetation and install digital traffic signs has begun and will take approximately 14 weeks. No diversion will be required as we have widened the road at the works site to accommodate two-way traffic where a 40mph speed restriction will be in place.

A120 Hare Green roundabout, Harwich Road, Essex: safety improvements

Work to improve road user safety by building continues this week, with ongoing construction of a new roundabout at Hare Green. The westbound carriageway between Horsley Cross roundabout and the junction with the A133 will be closed on Thursday and Friday nights between 9pm and 5am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B1035, B1033 and A133.

The Harwich Road junction with the A120 and the central reserve gap by Park Road are now closed.
