THE temporary 50mph speed limit on the westbound A14 between Fenstanton and Godmanchester will remain into the new year - because it has been too cold to mend the road.

The Highways Agency had planned to repair ruts in the carriageway for safety reasons during two overnight closures a week before Christmas. But the frost and fog closed in, and the agency decided to wait.

When repairs do go ahead, the westbound carriageway will be closed overnight between junction 28 (Swavesey) and 24 (Godmanchester) with through traffic diverted by way of the A428 and A1198.

Road travel information is available on the Highways Agency's information line (08457 504030 at local call rates - 8am-8pm weekdays and 9am-5pm weekends and New Year's Day). Information is available at national rates on 08700 660115.
