YOUNG footballers held a minute's silence at Ramsey Colts Football ground on Saturday in memory of Tom Jones, who died, aged 17.

Tom was a founder member of Ramsey colts and captain of Ramsey Colts Under-17s Football team. He was also the bassist with the award winning teenage band Inkus.

He died a year ago on Saturday following a hit and run incident in the early hours of April 29, 2005. Tom was walking home along the B1040 with friends to his home in The Great Whyte, Ramsey, after a sixth form party in Ramsey St Mary's.

Tom's father, Chris, told The Hunts Post last week that the family was grateful for all the support they had received from friends. Those who visited and took flowers to their home last week included the headteacher and head of sixth form at Ramsey Abbey where Tom was a pupil.

"We hope one day to get back to some kind of normality but it will never be the same," he said. "We just have to take things one day at a time."

During the year, Tom's older brother, Nathan, had become 21 and his sister Rosie had turned 16. They were family milestones that would automatically have called for parties but there was hesitation about Nathan's celebration. In the end, friends took the initiative and a party was held for him at the George Hotel in Ramsey.

This was the pub where Tom's parents, Chris and Linda, met and where a seven-hour memorial concert for Tom, with 11 bands playing, was held in October.

At the end of the night, the two other members of Inkus, Matt Parnell and James Olivier were joined in a farewell concert by The Stranglers' bassist Jaques Burnel, who stepped in saying it was the least he could do.

The concert and another with seven bands at Cambridge Corn Exchange the following week, raised some £3,000 for the MS Therapy Centre in Huntingdon, the chosen charity of Tom's family, who attended both concerts.
