I WAS horrified to read (April 5) of the arrest of the porter at Papworth Hospital for defending hospital property.

As a former colleague of Paul, I know what a fantastic job all the porters do every day protecting staff and patients and property.

It's a pity the police can't protect them. As for the police having to act quickly to protect these innocent youngsters, well it's a shame they couldn't have acted more quickly at the time to see just how innocent they really were.

It is the same with youngsters who congregate outside the One-Stop causing trouble. Of course, locals feel intimidated, but can do little about it for fear of ending up in trouble themselves.

When will the police get tough on these youths instead? And when will their parents be made responsible for their actions?

Heaven forbid they may become ill one day and require a stay in Papworth Hospital.
