THOUSANDS of homes were plunged into darkness in St Neots on Monday (October 3) as the town faced a power cut.
The power outage, which happened at 11.04am could not be explained by electricity supplier EDF Energy, who said that they were doing all they could to discover the source of the problem.
Some homes were reconnected quickly whilst other buildings including businesses such as Woolworths, The Bakers Oven and The Corner House experienced longer periods of darkness.
The power cut caused a halt in trading for some stores, such as Woolworths, who are reliant on power for tills and fridges.
Other stores, such as Waterstones, continued trading throughout intermittent power failures. A spokesman for Waterstones said: "The power cut only hit us for about 30 seconds the first time and then for about five minutes at 2pm.
"We continued trading throughout the day, but it slowed things down."
