CHILDREN at Thorndown School in St Ives took part in National School Meals Week. School caterer, Angie Stewart, said: "The purpose of this week is to introduce children to the new healthier style of menu that we offer. Due to Government guidelines introduced this year, we have a new era for school meals and we've gone through a lot of changes. "The differences in our new menus are very positive, and I'm proud to serve the healthier food. In the past the dishes I was preparing were often processed, high in fat, salt and sugar, but now more dishes are home cooked. "They contain more fruit and vegetables and there are definitely no deep-fried smiley potato faces. "Our children deserve better than to be brought up on processed food. What will this generation and the next cook for their families? We need to show them that real food is important. It's a long-term investment in their future.
