A horse was rescued from a ditch in Woodwalton by Cambridgeshire firefighters yesterday afternoon after becoming stuck in 4ft of silt.
The incident happened at 10.25am and a crew from Sawtry and a rescue vehicle from Huntingdon were called to a lane just off Raveley Road in Woodwalton where a horse had got stuck in a 6ft ditch. A vet put the 13-year-old horse to sleep to try and minimise stress during the rescue. Crews used strops and farming equipment to lift the horse out of the ditch at 12.30pm.
Spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service Hayley Buzzel said: "The horse is fine except for a few cuts and bruises. It was a difficult rescue due to the way the horse was stuck.
