AN INDIAN restaurant in Cambourne and its staff have been subjected to a spate of racial abuse.

The abuse has centred on Chutney Joe's restaurant in High Street, Great Cambourne. A member of staff has been racially abused by a group of youths who are also believed to be responsible for damaging the victim's car and restaurant window.

PC Kevin Murphy, who is investigating, said: "There is no place for racial abuse in Cambourne and we are asking for the public's help in identifying those responsible.

"There may be customers from the restaurant who can recall seeing a group of teenagers shouting abuse at a member of staff, or perhaps someone has witnessed some damage being caused in the vicinity.

"Maybe someone knows exactly who has been doing this. If so, they should please tell me.

"The local PCSOs have been visiting the restaurant each day since the damage was caused, and scenes of crimes officers have gathered forensic evidence."

On February 28 a concrete block was used to smash the glass panel in the front door and on Saturday, March 7 two more large panes of glass were broken between midnight and 9.50am.

On Tuesday, March 10 a group of youths shouted racist abuse through the restaurant door and made obscene gestures at the windows. The victim later found that his red Mercedes had been damaged.
