A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting in St Neots town centre.
Jack Smith, 27, of Caravan Park, Cambridge Road, St Neots has been charged with attempted murder and having a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. He was due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates Court on Wednesday (December 23).
The arrest was made following an incident outside the Unique bar in South Street, Street, St Neots.
Officers were called to reports of a man "driving by" the bar "discharging a firearm" at 12.30am on Friday (December 18).
Shots from a shotgun blasted holes in the doorframe of the bar and debris from one of the shotgun pellets is believed to have injured a man.
The bar has now been closed after police were granted a closure order by magistrates.
A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police said: "Investigations are underway and officers are appealing for witnesses.
"It is being treated as an isolated incident."
Bosses at Unique have refused to comment.
The police spokesman added: "A closure order on the premises has been granted by the courts.
"The nightclub will remain closed until a formal review of the licence takes place in the new year."
The bar had been the King's Head pub and reopened five weeks ago as the Unique bar.
The closures order was made following an application by police on the grounds that there is likely to be disorder in, or in the vicinity of, the premises.
The bar will remain closed until an investigation has been carried out by the licensing authority. Anyone ignoring the order faces a fine of up to £20,000 or three months' imprisonment.
