SERVICE men and women will be honoured in St Ives this summer at an Armed Forces Day in the town.

St Ives Town Council, in association with the St Ives Branch of the Royal British Legion, will be a special British Armed Forces Day celebration on June 25 - a date that also marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Royal British Legion.

Events will begin with a flag raising ceremony in Market Hill at noon followed by a parade to Warner's Park, led by the Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Corps of Drums. In the park there will be music all afternoon with a prize balloon race and a barbecue and refreshments.

Charities are being invited to host stalls at the event and any entertainers or musicians keen to take part would be welcomed, the council said. The musical style of the day will be easy listening, suitable for all the family.

The council also wants to hear from children's face painters and entertainers who would like to take part.
