A NEW 50mph speed limit is set to be imposed between Buckden and the Offord Mill bridges following six accidents in three years.
Huntingdonshire's traffic management committee is expected to approve the move next Monday (June 5) to reduce the limit from the national 60mph limit for single carriageway roads.
Two of the six accidents occurred on the road adjacent to houses on the south side of the road. One involved two vehicles racing. The other involved a driver overtaking and colliding with another stationary vehicle.
Engineers believe most drivers will comply with the new limit. Although a 40mph limit might become a longer-term objective, traffic survey information suggests it would be poorly adhered to if implemented now, the committee will hear.
