It's pretty difficult to listen to and enjoy any sense of melody or songwriting from it, although there is an unusual enjoyment derived from the St Ives band's honest and uncompromising rejection of traditional song. There is, I hope, a dark sense of humour at work here. The title, which we've abbreviated here to omit a touch of swearing, is screamed as the first words of the track and is so in-your-face that I couldn't help laughing - or at least smiling very broadly. The certain charm that the band have live isn't entirely captured here, but there is a good trace of it.
See the band live at the Cambridge Barfly on 18 April. For more information visit: www.myspace.com/theuncovering
