FEATURED ENTRY SONGS:
Picture of you by ROB CRANE and I was wrong by TREVOR JONES
This week I'm going to introduce you to two first-class tracks.
The first is Picture of You, written and performed by Rob Crane from Papworth Everard. The recording, especially the singing style most reminds me of Richard Ashcroft - and that in turn reminds me to try and separate the recording from the song - but that's often very difficult to do. It's put together as a traditional rock ballad with a degree of attitude and soul. It's got a well constructed yet simple structure, it's nicely arranged and the melody is main focus - just as it should be. It feels very cleanly recorded which does contrast with the emotion and soul that's fighting through. However, there's no hiding this is one of the best songs we've received so far.
Next up is I Was Wrong by Trevor Jones from Warboys. If this song was played on Radio 2 in the afternoon there would without doubt be calls to that station asking after this great singer. Nothing about the quality of this song or recording suggests that it is by anyone other than a professional artist - and a very good one at that.
I should say that I know Trevor very well and with each song he plays to me I become more convinced that he has all the talent needed to go all the way in the music business. If he had performed this at The Brits the other night he'd have won a thousand fans - most probably including the Scissor Sisters. This song oozes warmth, soul and melody.
