HOW'S THAT: England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards who grew up in Pidley was in Somersham on Saturday to open new play facilities at Norwood Playing Fields.
The new equipment was funded partly by Cambridgeshire County Council as part of a county wide scheme to encourage natural play. Thirty three have now been created over the past two years.
The event is the result of 18 months' work including asking children and their parents which which equipment they would like provided and setting up a Somersham Town Youth Group. Somersham Parish Council contributed to the cost and obtaining a grant of 40,000 from the Play Pathfinder programme, funded by Cambridgeshire County Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
A sensory garden, picnic tables, a climbing tree and roundabout with wheelchair access, are planned for the future once funds have been raised.
