TWO weeks ago yesterday (Tuesday) county councillors, almost exclusively from the Conservative Party, voted to give themselves a substantial pay rise.
Many arguments have been made for this increase, but only one point matters: you cannot give yourself a pay rise at a time of wage freezes, redundancies and cuts to council services, never mind a 25 per cent increase.
The Liberal Democrats voted resounding against. Now we are trying to overturn the decision in a second vote on December 7.
Please show your support for stopping this increase by signing the petition at: www.noto25percent.com, which has already been signed by 3,000 people.
It is my hope that the pressure of public opinion on your elected representatives will be so overwhelming that this decision will be overturned at the second vote.
Cllr KILIAN BOURKE
Leader of Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats
