CHRISTMAS came early for one Huntingdonshire family - with two sisters giving birth within hours of each other.
Aimee Rickwood and Sam Gibbs were unaware that they were in delivery suites opposite each other in Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
Aimee, 26, of High Street, Somersham, gave birth to Freddie James by emergency caesarean at 1.03pm on Monday, December 22. Her older sister Sam, 27, gave birth to Evie Rose at 2.37pm.
Both mums and babies were happy and healthy - but unaware of the coincidence until Sam phoned her mum Mandy to tell her the happy news.
Sam, who lives with her husband Kris, 30, in East Street, Colne, said: "I literally phoned mum as soon as I'd had Evie and that was when I found out Freddie had been born. I couldn't believe it - and my mum just screamed! She's as proud as anything."
Aimee found out she and husband Terry, 29, were expecting their first baby together not long after their wedding in March.
Her sister, Sam said: "I found out I was pregnant a day later. I phoned Aimee straight away and said 'You are never going to believe this, Aims!' I said at the time 'Wouldn't it be a miracle if they were born on the same day?'"
Freddie was due on December 11, with cousin Evie not expected to arrive until December 29.
Aimee said: "I had been having contractions for about two weeks before Freddie was born. Some days they would be as close as five minutes apart. They broke my waters on the Sunday but when they examined me again they decided the baby was too high and decided to do an emergency caesarean."
Freddie weighed a healthy 8lb 10oz.
While Aimee was having a difficult time giving birth to her second child, Sam had a much easier labour giving birth to her first child, who weighed 5lb 11oz .
She said: "It was so easy. They gave me gas and air but I literally took one breath and said it hadn't done anything - and then she was born. It was nice though, because I was completely with it for the birth."
The sisters, their new arrivals and their families, including Aimee's daughter Millie, four, enjoyed Christmas day at their mum Mandy's house in Somersham.
Sam said: "It was the perfect family Christmas.
