A BRAMPTON headteacher has retired and plans to start a new career as a registrar of marriages.

Dawn Fuller, head of Brampton Infants, said: "There can be nothing finer than making sure someone's marriage or civil partnership is happy and joyful."

Mrs Fuller has been married for 36 years to Ian, a former head at Winhills School, St Neots. They have two grown-up daughters.

Mrs Fuller said that among her school's proudest achievements was an award received in 2001 for outstanding progress and Ofsted reports highlighting its excellent features.

Mrs Fuller paid tribute to the school's parents' association, saying it was "just amazing" raising some £7,000 a year. "They want what's best for all the children, not just their own."

As a surprise, Mrs Fuller was saluted by a grand send-off of 150 balloons released on Friday, her last day - one for every child in her school.
