ESTATE agents and residents in Huntingdonshire are being asked to keep an eye on empty properties following a number of break-ins.

Since the start of the year nine burglaries have taken place at empty homes.

Many of these have occurred in the evening or overnight and offenders have gained access through open windows or unlocked doors at the rear of the house.

To crackdown on the break-ins neighbours are being asked to report any suspicious behaviour to police.

Also letters have been sent to estate agents offering crime prevention advice.

The letters ask estate agents to lock all windows and doors, avoid leaving spare keys to the house outside in a garage or shed and check that outside areas such as sheds and outbuildings are secure and items are stored safely. Also gardens should be kept tidy and free of debris.

INFORMATION: Residents are being asked to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to police on 0845 4564564.
