The district council is a bit like the police. The police keep telling us crime is going down and that the detection rate is improving. But somehow we still don't feel safer. Similarly, the district council keeps telling us everything is wonderful, when deep down we know it isn't.

The Tory-run district council keeps telling us we get value for money and they are doing a great job, employing spin doctors at our expense to tell us. But somehow we don't believe them. Our town centres and village high streets continue to decline and we continue to lose more facilities.

The problem is not whether or not the Tories are doing a good job. The problem is they are doing the wrong job. Residents are suspicious of 'redevelopments' rightly suspecting they are little more than property speculation. Suspicious of new plans to improve the centres of our market towns. And rightly so. There have been so many plans and few real improvements. Suspicious of sinking all our reserves into £20million of prestige offices.

So where does that leave local residents? The only way to make a difference on May 3 is to vote Liberal Democrat. No other opposition party stands a chance in Huntingdonshire. Vote in a strong opposition determined to get value for your money for you. We have a great team of candidates for the district council, the St Neots and Huntingdon town councils and for the county council vacancy in Little Paxton and St Neots North. Candidates with proven track records of service to the community, ready to earn your support, not to take it for granted.
