A CAMBRIDGESHIRE pre-school has been given £1,500 to help pay for the refurbishment of its kitchen.

A cheque was presented to staff and youngsters at Needingworth Community Pre-School by Sue Barton from Waitrose.

Pre-school chairman Sarah Hazel said: "We had a glowing Ofsted report at the end of 2004 but inspectors picked up on one aspect of the school. They asked us to improve the design and layout of the kitchen.

"The funds we have been raising will be used to open up the kitchen, providing a new design and layout to meet Ofsted requirements."

The school has raised £18,500 and Cambridgeshire County Council has pledged to match that to provide a budget of £37,000 to pay for the refurbishment, which is due to start in the next few months.

A toddle on Friday, June 23 at the pre-school and the village fair on Saturday, July 29 will provide further cash.
