THE power cut through parts of Huntingdonshire on Monday night was caused by a fault in a substation, EDF Energy confirmed today (Tuesday).
The cut affected police telephone lines as well as traffic lights, shops, offices and homes, bringing roads and town centres to a standstill for at least an hour.
The power was restored in stages. Lights went out just after 5pm and was restored, mostly between 6.30pm and 7pm.
A police spokesman said that during the black-out calls to the police 0845 number did not go through and they were able to answer 999 emergency calls only. The lines to the 0845 number were restored by 8pm.
