A POWER cut hit Huntingdon high street last Thursday causing businesses to lose thousands of pounds. More than a dozen shops on the High Street were forced to close between approximately 11.45am and 3.30pm. Specsavers had to cancel at least 20 sight tests, West End DIY lost around \u00A3350 according to manager Lee Holmes and Phones 4 U was unable to resume business even after 3.30pm due to further electrical difficulties, according to manager Christine Mayhew. Centre Crafts attempted to continue trading in cash only and semi-darkness during the four hour period. Manager Ian Jackson said: "We tried to carry on but many people walked past and assumed we were closed, we couldn't do any internet ordering either. I contacted the electricity company to discuss compensation, but apparently you need to be without electricity for 18 hours, and even then they only offer \u00A3100 regardless of how much potential business is lost. "It's really not good enough.
