AN inquiry has been launched after a man was found dying on the roadside in St Ives.

Ian Duncan, 45, of Dart Close, St Ives was discovered lying face down in Oxford Road, on Sunday at about 7pm.

He was discovered by a couple who live there and called the emergency services. Mr Duncan was then taken by ambulance to Hinchingbrooke Hospital. He died a short time later.

The couple who found him heard noises outside their window and went to have a look. They found Mr Duncan lying face down on the side of the road.

Police called a press conference the following day and it was expected that they would launch a murder hunt but a post mortem found the cause of death inconclusive. It is understood that there was evidence of convulsions followed by a fall. It is also understood that he broke his neck and had superficial injuries to his face. Police say they are investigating how Mr Duncan came to be on the roadside.

Specialist search and forensic teams, 20 officers and the major investigations team were enlisted in the initial operation. Officers carried out investigations in Oxford Road throughout Monday, with the area taped off.

Mr Duncan, who lived with his fiancee, was last seen on Sunday evening at 6pm at the home of friends in St Ives.

Detective Inspector Jim Bambridge said: "We now need to establish Ian's movements

prior to him being found in Oxford Road."

Ian was white, six foot tall, with short dark hair that is slightly grey, and was wearing a grey puffa-jacket with yellow zips on Sunday evening.

The inspector added: "Did you see a man matching his description in Oxford Road or the surrounding area? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously or unusually? Did you see anyone following a man matching Ian's description? Did you see any vehicles in the street you didn't recognise?

"Any information no matter how minor could help us piece together Ian's last movements."
