FIRST Step Playgroup in Somersham received the overall grade of good in an Ofsted Report. The report, by the Office for Standards in Education, said the children enjoyed their movement to music, songs and nursery rhymes and playing indoors and outdoors on a play area with a soft safety surface. It added youngsters enjoyed outings and activities such as planting bulbs.
The report said: "Children are happy and settled at the pre-school. They arrive with enthusiasm, separate from their carers easily and settle quickly to their chosen activities." It said good settling-in procedures ensured that younger children developed confidence.
The group was set up in 1977 and operates as a registered charity, managed by a committee of parents. There are places for 26 children at any one time and currently 51 on the roll. The setting means the group can take in some children with learning difficulties or disabilities.
