Budding young artists from primary schools near Ramsey have been studying the work of Pablo Picasso and producing their own masterpieces.

Year 3 and 4 pupils from Ashbeach, Bury, Earith, Ramsey, St Helens, Somersham and Upwood primary and junior schools met for an afternoon of art-focused activities led by Lindsay Clarke, leading art teacher at Upwood School.

Ms Clarke said: "We discussed the life and works of Picasso. The children interpreted feelings, from the way he used colour and line in his paintings.

"For their main activity, the children had an envelope containing an emotion, such as anger, misery or joy. The envelope also contained four photographs of a girl taken from different perspectives. The children were asked to create a cubist portrait that showed the specified emotion."
