CHILDREN at Bury Church of England Primary School, near Ramsey, have made their school top in the county for SATS marks.
Youngsters took the national Standard Attainment Tests for year six (pupils aged 10 or 11) and 100 per cent of them reached level four in all three subjects, English, maths and science.
And the majority of them went to reach level five, the highest level. Some 97 per cent reached level five in science, 69 per cent reached level five in maths and 52 per cent reached level five in English.
Headteacher, Jeremy Summerell said that nationally, children did better in science than in maths and English. He added that the test results meant little to him. He said: "Children do well because they are happy, the children feel respected, loved and cared for and they care for each other and that's why they
generally do well. It is a virtuous circle."
Mr Summerell, a father of six with two of his children at his school, added: "SATS results on their own do not interest me at all. They are only important as part of the general happiness and well-being of the child."
Across the country, Cambridgeshire scored 248 out of 300, coming joint 13th in the table - within the top 25 per cent, scoring the same as Cumbria, East Riding of Yorks, Hampshire, and North Tyneside. Top of the table was Richmond on Thames with 265 and bottom was Hackney with 210.
