ONCE again car parking at St Neots station has increased in price, and quite possibly it has across our region.

The daily ticket price far exceeds the hourly rate for the national minimum wage and with the weekly ticket increasing by nearly 7 per cent one wonders what justification can be put forward to explain this.

The charges were increased over a bank holiday weekend without advertising the fact either before the hike or after the event.

Could this be because even they feel embarrassed by the highway robbery they are committing? At a time of austerity and job insecurity the car parking agents appear to be further maximising profits. It is difficult to see what has improved or the increased service they have provided since the last price rise.

The problem does not just impact on the commuter but also on the nearby residents. Over pricing has already, and quite literally, driven people away from the car park and it is now permanently half empty.

Overspill into the streets is unwelcome but an understandable consequence of over-inflated prices.
