PARENTS in Cambridgeshire are sticking to more traditional names for their newborn children, according to figures from the county's registration service.

For the boys, Thomas once again is the most popular name, with Jack retaining second spot. For girls Emily proved popular - moving up to the number one spot from second place last year and Olivia moved up to second place from 11th place the previous year.

The top five names for a boy were: Thomas, Jack, Oliver, Harry and James. With the most popular names for a girl being: Emily, Olivia, Grace, Chloe, and Sophie and Jessica tied in fifth place.

Newcomers to the top 20 included Dylan, Imogen, Abigail, Phoebe, Freya and Madeleine.

This year Cambridgeshire registrars have recorded 1,632 marriages, 70 Civil Partnerships, 4,993 deaths and 6,548 births.
