COUNTRYSIDE campaigners say the move to Cambridge will lead to far greater traffic congestion in South Cambridgeshire.

"We need to provide essential services close to people rather than in remote centres which simply pile on the miles," said Ian Ivanovic, spokesman for the Cambridgeshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. "We need to encourage people to use local services.

"We don't need the roads full of motorists travelling nine or 10 miles to buy bread and milk."

CPRE also suggests more home working to reduce pollution and more effective demand management to reduce congestion.
