I WISH to suggest that a change in the name for the Oxmoor could only bring positivity to the area (The Hunts Post, September 3).
Having pondered on different names, a few have sprung to mind. How about Hartford cum Stukeley? The council could then have a statue commissioned of our former Prime minister, John Major, from plaster of Paris, thumbs up and sited on the corner of the Barley Mow. This would then give visitors to the area a comforting thought that a world leader doth hail from such a place.
Another suggested name change could be Oxmoor upon Ouse, thus suggesting (like Stratford upon Avon) that more greatness hails from such a place, namely, in the latter case, Shakespeare.
However, should a vote be cast, I do believe that either Hemingford Abbots North would be a contender to replace Oxmoor or Oxmoor-on-Ouse, a bit like Henley-on-Thames.
